About Us

Who we are

Shinqit Foundation is a South African-based NGPO focusing on the preservation of traditional Islamic knowledge in Mauritania, social development (feeding), and creating jobs while fostering connections between West Africa and the global community.

Our Story

History and background of the foundation.

Mohammad Bilal Sayed has been engaged in development and relief efforts in Mauritania and Senegal since 2011, while his children were studying in Mauritania.

Upon returning to his home country, South Africa, it became evident that the work needed to persist. Consequently, he established an NGO known as The Shinqit Foundation. A significant aspect of his endeavours involves providing support to various Shuyukh and their ‘villages of learning’. Among the completed projects are the construction of Gift of the Givers’ (GoTG) Centre for the Mother and Child in Ma’tamoulana, the installation of wells in various villages, a Masjid, feeding, monthly Zakaat and fees for teachers and students.

Annually, he supervises the Eid al-Adha Meat Distribution in Medina Baye, Kaolack, and neighbouring regions in Senegal and Mauritania, along with organising a Ramadan feeding program for these Islamic educational communities.

On behalf of GoTG, he manages a monthly zakat and payment programme for mahdhara (traditional Islamic school) teachers and students.

This initiative has been ongoing for several years, and many scholars and students have benefitted and continue to benefit from the programme.
